Probably the most important thing you need to do whilst photographing babies is to get down to their level. Not only will they think its fun having you down on the ground with them but it helps you engage with them.

2. Make sure you take pictures of all their features. They grow so quickly that it is definitely worth capturing their feet, hands, ears and the top of their head. You can also manipulate baby’s hand to grasp Mum or Dad’s finger to accentuate how tiny his/her hands are.

Older children tend to move around a lot, so to capture that perfect photo put your camera onto continuous shooting mode. This will give you lots of shots in quick succession but in this digital world you can take as many as you want to get the photo you treasure and delete the rest.

Take the children outside and stand a safe distance away from them and let them play. If you have a decent zoom on your camera you will get a section of beautiful natural images that you will treasure.

Getting children to look at a camera may be quite tricky but you if get somebody to stand behind you with a noisy toy and hold it just above your head (bearing in mind you will be down low at this point), they usually look straight at you and you may even get a big smile. You may ­­­­also want to try singing their favorite songs. This is usually a winner every time.
